Bread On Bridge

One way we can love our neighbors is by feeding them. Bread on Bridge is a weekly meal at Nehemiah Mission, located on Bridge Avenue in Cleveland’s Ohio City neighborhood. On Tuesday afternoons, members of the community gather to share a meal lovingly prepared by volunteers. Come be in community with others who may be living in circumstances different from your own. Listen to their stories and share your own. Jesus calls us to love our neighbors. Isn’t attention is the first step of love?

What is it?

Providing a fresh, hot meal for the residents of the community surrounding Nehemiah Mission and the refugees housed there.

When is it?

Our church has made a commitment to serve a meal every other month. Sometimes, we do some meal preparations on Sundays after church – but the meal is always served on Tuesdays as an early dinner. In 2024 we began a bi-monthly rotation and committed to serving meals in December, October, August, and July. 2025 dates – February, April, June, August, October and December.

Four Ways to Help

  • 1. Plan a meal.
  • 2. Shop for ingredients.
  • 3. Prep the meal.
  • 4. Serve at Nehemiah Mission. Get to know and love the people you’re serving and be God’s hands and feet in the world.

Why Do We Do It?

Nehemiah Mission is a United Methodist Urban mission and has been serving their community in life changing ways for many decades. This project is an opportunity to build relationships with the people we serve, to share our blessings, to care for the needs of the whole person, to practice our value of Determined Service, and to love like Jesus.
