2025 has brought some changes to our church closing team. Long time closers Bob Lundholm and Doug Holmes have turned in their keys after many, many years of faithful service. As they take a well-deserved break, it’s time for us to step up and join the church closing team!
Our doors aren’t just open on Sunday. Brecksville United Methodist Church is a busy place all week long. We serve as a gathering place for the whole community, hosting recovery group meetings, exercise classes, scout troops, recitals and music lessons, baby showers, birthday parties, networking groups, book clubs, community groups and more. Keeping the building open for so much of the week requires that we have church openers (usually staff) and a team of church closers who come in and secure the building when the day is done.
Church closers have a checklist and do a walk through of the building at the end of the day. They ensure that the lights are off, the doors are locked and that the building is safe and secure. We serve on a one week rotation, coming to the church every night for one assigned week, Sunday through Saturday. (The more closers we have on the team, the less frequent our weeks are assigned.)
It’s a great job for night owls, folks who live nearby, and those who enjoy walking through our big church building – usually alone, but occasionally interacting with evening groups. You’ll get your steps in!
We are thankful for our current team – Dave Brown, Kathy Auble, Marla Knight, and Jamie Schwendeman. Talk to them to learn more about their experience as closers. Or reach out to Office Manager, Anthy Imes, to learn more and to volunteer.
