The fires in California may be far from Brecksville, but the people of California are in our prayers. Let’s put our prayers into action. If you want to help those affected by the wildfires in California, consider a gift to the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR). With administrative costs supported by United Methodist Churches worldwide, 100% of your gift will be used to respond to the disaster.
On January 7, 2025 strong Santa Ana winds in Los Angeles caused wildfires to spread rapidly in multiple communities in California. Thousands of homes and businesses have been destroyed, as well as multiple local United Methodist Churches. Preliminary assessments of the damage is underway. UMCOR has awarded two solidarity grants to the California-Pacific Annual Conference to undergird their immediate relief efforts. This includes evacuee support like food and essential supplies as well as support for volunteer efforts and other relief activities.
About UMCOR
With a “communities own their recoveries” philosophy, UMCOR supports local efforts to accomplish immediate relief and long-term recovery while providing for volunteers to offer compassionate ministry in the aftermath of disasters.
In partnership with disaster response ministries and coordinators in U.S. annual conferences, UMCOR journeys with affected communities throughout a disaster’s cycle, including disaster preparedness, relief, response, recovery and mitigation.
