Volunteer Bicycle Ministry Leader Wanted

Do you have a heart for helping others?  Are you an avid cyclist, a leisurely pedal-through-the-park type of biker, or simply someone who values the fun and freedom a bicycle can provide? Our church’s bicycle repair program, a vital ministry since 2015, is seeking a dedicated Volunteer Bicycle Ministry Leader to continue our mission of providing reliable transportation to those in need. We’ve successfully placed over 100 bikes annually, and you’ll have the opportunity to build on this incredible legacy!

This position is open to any person in the community – not limited to those from Brecksville United Methodist Church

In this rewarding, unpaid position, you’ll be the driving force behind our monthly “bike fix-it” days, currently held on Saturday mornings. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Organizing and leading our monthly bike repair events.
  • Recruiting and coordinating other volunteers for these events.
  • Overseeing bike repairs, ensuring bikes are safe and road-ready.
  • Coordinating bike deliveries to partner organizations for distribution.
  • Managing scrap metal deliveries to the recycling center.

Why Volunteer with Us?

While this is an unpaid position, the rewards are immense. You’ll have a unique opportunity to channel your passion for bikes into meaningful action, directly impacting the lives of individuals in our community. You’ll also find camaraderie and connection by working alongside other dedicated volunteers, fostering a sense of shared purpose. Beyond the practical skills, you’ll be contributing to creation care by recycling and repurposing and keeping bikes out of the landfill, and advancing social justice by empowering people with the gift of mobility. This role truly allows you to use your talents to make the world a better place, one bike at a time.

This ministry is an integral part of our church’s mission to create safe spaces to grow with God and one another. As a volunteer leader, you’ll be putting four of our five core values into practice: determined service, lifelong learning, courageous inclusion, and joyful gathering. (The fifth is honest worship!) You’ll be working in an environment that prioritizes these principles in all we do.

This role offers significant room for growth! You’ll have the chance to expand the ministry by:

  • Applying for grants to secure funding.
  • Developing partnerships with other local non-profit organizations and bike shops.
  • Creating opportunities for others in the community to serve.

We’re looking for someone who embodies a positive, caring, and committed spirit, with a passion for both creation care and social justice. You should have a strong understanding of bicycle mechanics and be comfortable leading a team.  It is a physical job, as it requires moving bikes, including up and down a short set of stairs.

The time commitment for this position is at least 20 hours per month, including one Saturday morning. You set the schedule. If you’re ready to make a tangible difference in our community and share your love of cycling, we encourage you to apply!
