Join the “Behind-the-Scenes” Team at BUMC!

If you’ve been in worship over the last few months, you’ve probably noticed how great everything sounds and looks! That’s thanks in large part to our new Audio-Visual Manager, Jeremy Johnston, who has been hard at work organizing our gear, setting up remote mixing stations, and making sure our worship reaches everyone—whether sitting in our pews or joining us online.

Now, Jeremy is looking to build out his team, and he wants to coach YOU!

You don’t need a degree in broadcasting or years of experience to join the AV team. In fact, you don’t need any experience at all! If you can click a mouse, follow a song, or listen with a helpful ear, Jeremy and our AV volunteer team will give you all the training, confidence and support you need to learn something new.

Four Ways You Can Serve on Sunday Morning

1. The Slide Navigator (ProPresenter)

• What you’ll do: Advance the slides for hymns, scripture, and sermon notes during the service.
• Who it’s great for: Anyone who can read along with a service and click a mouse! It’s the easiest seat in the house to learn and a great way to stay engaged with the worship service.

2. The Camera Director (PTZ Cameras)

• What you’ll do: Use a joystick and presets to select camera angles for our livestream audience, switching views between the pulpit, band, choir, and altar.
• Who it’s great for: Anyone who loves a bit of visual storytelling or enjoys video production (no heavy lifting required—our cameras are controlled remotely!).

3. The Sanctuary Sound Mixer (In-Person Audio)

• What you’ll do: Balance the microphones, instruments, and spoken word so that everyone in the sanctuary can hear clearly without distraction.
• Who it’s great for: Anyone with a good ear for music who enjoys working with digital sound boards (Jeremy will walk you through signal flow step-by-step!).

4. The Broadcast Sound Mixer (Online Audio)

• What you’ll do: Work at our dedicated remote station to create a custom audio mix specifically tuned for our online worshipers watching from home.
• Who it’s great for: Detail-oriented folks who love putting on a pair of headphones and creating a balanced, polished sound for the web.
