Acolyte Training 2024

Five 3rd graders were trained as new acolytes this September, and will join others serving at the 10:30 worship service.  Our church has a long history of acolytes bringing in the Light of Christ at the start of our worship time.  For almost 40 years, our dear Bev Huber, who passed away this spring directed the acolyte program and grew it into the strong ministry that it is today.

Acolyte is derived from the Greek word akolothos, which means attendant.  Since ancient times, light and fire have reminded people of God’s presence.  When an acolyte carries the lit taper into the sanctuary we are reminded that Jesus said he was “the light of the world.” When they carry the flame out of the sanctuary at the end of the service we are reminded that God is with us in all places and at all times and that as we leave the sanctuary we are to carry Christ’s light out into the world.

Do you have a child, 3rd grade or older who would like to be trained as an acolyte?
