According to Google, “Donate to charity” is always a search that always spikes in December. If you are looking for local charities in need of support, there are some great and worthwhile missions doing life-changing work in Northeast Ohio. Their top wish list items go beyond the financial. They need your prayers and your presence, too. If you’re looking for volunteer opportunities, you’ll find them here!
Three places to start…
- Trials For Hope is the charity we’re supporting with our Christmas Eve offering this year. Located on Bridge Avenue in Cleveland, they work with those living on the margins in greater Cleveland. One of their missions is to deliver food and dignity kits to those experiencing homelessness every week. They also serve seniors and others in need in the community. Your financial gift will help Trials For Hope help others. Give here. We are also organizing a Saturday volunteer day where we will spend a morning in hands on mission on Bridge Avenue in January 2025. Date TBD!
- The BUMC Bike Ministry takes donated bikes, cleans and repairs them, and gets them into the hands of people in need. Kids bikes bring joy and adult bikes are essential for transportation to school and work. This ministry began in 2015 and is still going strong, having delivered over 1000 bikes. What are our greatest needs? Volunteer hours (our next Fix It Day is Saturday, January 18 from 9 am to noon) and bike parts.
- The East Ohio Conference of the United Methodist Church works with ministry partners all over our half of the state. They have put together a wishlist of needs – and the need doesn’t end on Christmas Day. There are a wide range of items on the Christmas wish lists from soap, pillows, onesies, paper towels, and toiletries to soccer balls, gift cards, educational opportunities, and summer camp tuition.
