Seasons of Change

What is your favorite season? I’ve often had a difficult time answering this question myself, and my response seems to change every time I contemplate it.  While winter is not usually the season that comes to my mind first, I have always found it magical with its longer nights, holiday spirit and scenes of freshly fallen snow glistening like a blanket of diamonds.  Who could argue that cozying up with a good book and a fragrant, warm beverage under your favorite fuzzy blanket doesn’t bring joy?

Spring is usually my go-to answer because of my April birthday but also due to the sprouting buds and flowers.  The glory of Easter Sunday and the Earth’s long- awaited rebirth make my heart feel alive again after a winter of hibernation.

Since I am a teacher, summer would be a natural answer as it brings relaxation and rejuvenation and time to complete all of those chores and tasks that go by the wayside during the school year.  Long, sunny days, family vacations, campfires and no 5 am alarm make summer a strong contender in this competition!

And then there is fall–brilliant, splendorous fall which brings with it so much change and evokes so many memories by fully engaging all of our senses.  Autumn is perhaps the season that invites all of us to “pick me, pick me!” as a favorite.  From crunchy piles of leaves and colorful, wooded venues that seem almost surreal, to fall activities such as hayrides, apple picking and football games, this season offers something for everyone!  And who doesn’t love to choose a pumpkin to carve or decorate your front step? (Speaking of pumpkins, I know where you can get some and support a great cause at the same time!)

Living in Ohio, we are blessed to be immersed in all four seasons and enjoy the changes of the glorious world that our God made.   No matter what season is your favorite, I hope that you embrace the changes that occur with the turn of each calendar page. May you take time to notice the beauty around you and find joy in the “little things”.  My prayer is that you also remember that while change is inevitable, there is one thing that remains constant; our Creator’s unconditional, everlasting love for each of us.
