Thanksgiving Offering

The Nehemiah Mission of Cleveland, an East Ohio Conference UMC Health & Well-Being Partner, serves the most vulnerable people in our communities.  Located on Bridge Avenue in the Ohio City neighborhood of Cleveland, the mission is located in a historic church located near a school. They love the neighborhood with a variety of programming and resources.

One way is through weekly Bread on Bridge community meals. Every Tuesday at 2PM about 50 low-income or unhoused neighbors come to eat, build community, and take home leftovers. They are always looking for volunteers to help. Are you interested in getting a group together to provide the meal and the volunteers to prepare, serve, and clean one Tuesday? Nehemiah provides the kitchen, tableware, and coffee. Sign up here!

Our own Liz Fredrick has been instrumental in starting a new sewing program at Nehemiah, hosting classes for schoolchildren to learn how to sew. They are accepting donations of sewing materials, fabric, and sewing machines and also looking for more volunteers with sewing experience who can help run the classes.

Marla Knight and Craig Kotnik have served on the board of Nehemiah Mission and would be happy to talk with you about its work. New Executive Director, Graham Ball, will be sharing the message at our 10:30 Worship Service on Sunday, December 28, 2025.  Nehemiah Mission is navigating the rapidly evolving immigration situation in our country, and Nehemiah Mission is providing temporary emergency housing to immigrants. Come learn what our congregation can do to help. Graham has four years of experience working with displaced people and grassroots immigrant rights organizations and is completing a Master degree in Forced Migration and Refugee Protection.

The mission needs to replace its aging boiler and has an opportunity for matching funds during Giving Tuesday. Our Missions & Community Engagement Team has chosen Nehemiah for our Thanksgiving Offering. Gifts received through November 30 will be matched, up to $11,000! Drop your gift, marked “Thanksgiving” in the offering plate, or give securely online through the link below.
