Veterans Sunday

On Veterans Sunday, we set aside time to honor, respect, and support for those who have served our country through the armed forces. You are invited to join us!

There will be a special reception in the Parlor on Sunday, November 10, 2024 starting at 9:30. If you are a veteran, please RSVP. If you are not a veteran, please come and surround those who served with gratitude.

A veterans slideshow and prayer will be shared at the start of the 10:30 service. If you are a veteran, please send your photo, branch of service and years of service to Office@Brecksvilleumc.com or call 440-526-8938 by Wednesday 11/6/2024.

Christmas Cards for the VA Hospital

Writing a note is a simple way to show care for those who served. Help write holiday greeting cards for patients at the Cleveland Veterans Administration Hospital. These caring cards will bring comfort to those who are hospitalized.

We need a lot of cards! Do you have cards to donate? Please bring them to church! Our goal is to write at least one card for every patient in this 673 bed hospital! With your help we can!

Writing cards at home? Keep these helpful tips in mind:

  • Remember that both men and women serve in the armed forces. Begin your note with “Dear Service Member”, “Dear Veteran”, “Dear Wounded Hero” or another salutation that can be inclusive of all those who served.
  • Keep your messages positive. Express gratitude for their service, share hopeful messages, well wishes, and positive thoughts.
  • Veterans come from many different religious traditions. “God Bless You” and “you are in my prayers” are appropriate in all cards, but if you include any scripture or Bible verses, please draw a cross on the outer envelope.
  • To ensure that your message is a comfort, please abstain from writing about violence, killing, illness, injury, death, and dying, etc.

Military & Veterans

From the United Methodist Church

Although we oppose war and urge nations to find peaceful means of conflict resolution, The United Methodist Church loves and supports those who serve in the armed forces.

We are committed to providing pastoral ministry to members of the armed forces and their families both during their service and after their return home. Congregations are encouraged to support those serving through prayer and to welcome their participation in the ministry of the church once they return.

The church also advocates on behalf of veterans, particularly those who are suffering from physical and emotional injuries, for medical care and benefits to promote their healing and successful return to civilian life.
