Where Faith Meets Action: 22 Camp Scholarships Funded!

What started a few years ago as a small initiative to send a handful of kids to camp has blossomed into a major movement of joy and belonging. Over three years, interest has skyrocketed. The first year, we helped 6 girls go and this year 22 girls from Re:Source Cleveland—all from families new to the United States as refugees and asylum seekers—were eager to attend an East Ohio UMC camp.

The financial barriers for these families were high, but our Missions & Community Engagement Team knew exactly what to do. Using a generous portion of their annual budget, they ensured every single one of these 22 girls will get to go to camp this summer.

According to Re:Source Cleveland, this experience is vital. It offers these youth:

  • Space to build confidence and independence.
  • Time in nature, away from the heavy stressors of relocation.
  • A chance to form lasting friendships and simply be kids.
  • This is what your giving makes possible! Thank you for opening your hearts and resources to ensure our newest neighbors are welcomed with open arms and life-changing experiences.

Want to help?

  • Pray for these girls and their families, that their experience at camp will be safe and fun and full of friendship.
  • Drivers may be needed to help get the girls to and from camp. Are you willing? Connect with the church office.
  • Financial donations help equip the girls with the camp gear they need. Text “GiveBUMC Kids2Camp” to give online or note “Kids2Camp” on your cash or check gift.
  • We’ll be assembling goodie bags for the girls on Sunday, June 28 at 9:30 in the Parlor. Stay tuned for ways you can help!
