Work-ship

Work as worship = Work-ship! We set aside a Sunday to participate in an act of service as worship, assembling 35,000 meals to be sent around the world to people in need. We partner with Rise Against Hunger for this event, which first began when a church member organized the first Work-ship in the mid twenty-teens. This is our fifth Work-Ship event at Brecksville UMC!

Work-ship is a joyful morning. While we work, we learn and we are in community with one another. Our Rise Against Hunger event will provide lasting, real-life impact as our group works together for a start-to-finish meal assembly experience to combine rice, soy, dehydrated vegetables and a packet of 20 vitamins and minerals into life-changing meal packages. The food stores easily, transports quickly and has a long shelf-life to help meet the immediate nutritional needs of people facing food insecurity, paving the way toward resilient and bright futures!

Why are we doing this work?

We are providing hope for a brighter future for communities around the world. It starts with a meal! Watch this video to learn more about the work.

There are many ways to help and something for people of all abilities to do. Everyone is welcome, but registration is required.

In addition to packing meals, we will have other opportunities to serve. Not good on your feet? Help fold and cut bags for our sleeping mat project! We’ll have two looms set up, one near all the action in Fellowship Hall and the other in the Parlor for those who are sensitive to all the joyful noise downstairs.

Happy Birthday, Pastor Heidi!

Sunday February 23 is also Pastor Heidi’s birthday! There will be birthday cake! Registering to serve or donating funds for meals are the perfect gifts for this party!
