Why we’re looking for a technical coach
At Brecksville UMC, we believe God’s love is expansive—a radical hospitality that says you are loved “even if, and no matter what.” In 2026, that hospitality doesn’t just happen at our front steps; it happens through our Digital Front Door. For many, their first visit to BUMC happens on a commute, in a living room, or across the miles via our live stream. By the time someone crosses our physical threshold for the first time, they often already know our heart. Whether you are sitting in the third pew or joining us from another state, our goal is the same: to create a safe space to grow with God and one another.
A “Two-for-One” Win for Our Community
To live into this vision more fully, we are opening a search for a new staff member: an Audio-Visual Manager. This position is truly a “two-for-one” win for our church family:
- Support for our Volunteers: We aren’t just looking for someone to push buttons; we are looking for a Technical Coach. Our AV volunteers are the heartbeat of our Sundays, but as technology grows more complex, they deserve to be mentored and supported. We want the tech booth to be a place of joy and creativity, not a place of troubleshooting and stress.
- The Gift of Connection: By hiring a professional to steward the tech booth, we free up our Director of Communications and Connection, Melanie Smith, to do what she does best: connect. Instead of being tied to the balcony on Sunday mornings, Melanie will be available to greet new visitors, facilitate belonging, and ensure that everyone who walks through our doors—online or in-person—feels seen and heard.
What is a Technical Coach?
Our new AV Manager will be the atmosphere architect of our worship environment. Their mission is twofold:
- Ensuring Excellence: They make sure the medium never gets in the way of the message, from the clarity of the spoken word and music in the sanctuary to the quality of the live stream.
- Mentoring Others: They will set the stage for our volunteers—teaching and building a team where every member feels confident and equipped to serve.

We are looking for someone with a professional technical background and a teacher’s heart. They might be a seasoned industry pro or a rising star in the local production scene who loves our mission.
